After preliminary screening and the review of geographical name expert team, the First-batch Cultural Heritage Protection Catalog of Geographical Names in Yiwu had been formally determined and published to the public on Dec. 14. According to information, the First-batch Cultural Heritage Protection Catalog of Geographical Names in Yiwu covered nine categories in total, namely, ancient county, ancient town, ancient village, mountain, river and lake, bridge, temple, ancient tower, and memorial site, and a total of 22 names were selected into the catalog. The geographical names in the first-batch cultural heritage protection catalog published mostly have a history of over 1,000 years, and there is an attractive story behind each of them, all of which are the memories of Yiwu people and the nostalgia of those wandering away from hometown.
There are many geographical names worth protecting in Yiwu. In future, a new batch will be selected each year, and the participation of citizens in selection and supervision will be welcomed. Yiwu will adhere to the principles of focus on application and emphasis on inheritance while carrying out cultural heritage protection over geographical names. Next, it needs to continuously improve the evaluation and selection system, incorporate the geographical names needing protection into the protection catalog in batches step by step, and earnestly do a good job in the protection, management, and reasonable utilization of geographical names identified as cultural heritages.
